This particular shade of color is due to the rock powder that is dissolved in their waters. Since these lakes derived from glaciers (in fact we are in the midst of the Southern Alps), during their training, the friction due to movement of the glacier has produced fine particles of rock, which remain suspended in the water of the lakes, giving this beautiful bright color.

In the small town of Lake Tekapo is located, then the tiny Church of the Good Shepherd (Church of the Good Shepherd). Entirely of stone, is really tiny and has nothing inside, except for a window in front a crucifix that overlooks the lake (you can see in the photo).
